To qualify for awards and incentives, all contributions must be turned in by 2:00 pm on the day of the Plunge and will be given on site (except for vests which we need sizes for), while supplies last. Plunge staff will have a printed record of the total contributions you earn online. We try to order enough incentives to supply all Plungers; however we cannot always guarantee your incentives will be on hand. If you do not receive all your incentives the day of the Plunge, they will be available for pick up after the Plunge.

Step by Step of how to get started!

Individual plungers

Step 1: Pick up a brochure from Meadowmont Club or download the registration form here.

Online registration (below) helps our office prepare for the Polar Plunge by letting us know how many Plungers to expect as well as identify you as the name any online donors make a contribution for; however, Plungers can still register for the event the day of the Plunge. If you register for the Plunge online, you will still need to check-in at the Plunge to sign a waiver, pick up your incentives and turn in your contributions.

Step 2: Set your fundraising goal. The minimum is $25 for the right to plunge. Just remember, the higher your goal, the more opportunities we can provide to our Kids in Training! Tell your family, friends, businesses (i.e. everybody!) about your chilly dip and ask them to make a donation, which you can keep track of on contributions form. Better yet, ask if they want to jump with you and solicit even more donations for KIT! SEE IF YOUR COMPANY WILL MATCH YOUR DONATION THROUGH THEIR MATCHING FUNDS PROGRAM!

Step 3: Gather your registration materials.

  • You will need your registration and contribution forms that you will either download or have picked up.
  •  Sign your waiver. You must be 18 years of age or older and sign the waiver in order to participate or have your parent come and sign it onsite.
  • Bring your donation. Donors may use our website or use the following button and list the donation in your name.
Step 4: Drop off your registration form and donations at the Meadowmont Club early to avoid long lines. The club is open from

Step 5: If you don't register early, come to the Meadowmont Club on the plunge day from

      Additional Information & FAQs
This is the 1st Annual Polar Plunge hosted by Meadowmont Club of Chapel Hill, to benefit Kids in Training. KIT is involved with kids and their families, getting and keeping them fit. KIT produces events to inspire activity, conduct programs so families can incorporate better nutrition and fitness habits in their lifestyle and also provide funding for those who otherwise could not have access to these programs. One such program is Learn to Swim" which teaches kids to swim at reduced or no cost. ALL PROCEEDS will be given directly to Kids in Training for the sole use of providing these programs to underprivileged children.

Parking: Parking is located in the swim club lot but cars cannot be moved during the race which is expected to be from 1 until about 2:30. The Village Center will have parking and certain streets close to the race site. Please follow all signs such as No Parking due to Bike Lanes, etc. If parking at the Village Center, please use spots furthest from the stores to allow for ample customer parking. Prepare for restricted access during the race.

Who can Plunge? Anyone can Plunge- young and old. If you are under 18, your parents will need to sign your waiver form but you will only be able to plunge up to your knees.

What to wear? Anything! Creativity is encouraged, so get wacky and entertain us!

What IS the actual Plunge? The actual Plunge is where all the Plungers race into and then frolic in, the Meadowmont Club pool,(which is OUTDOORS) within a safety perimeter established by the lifeguards. Plungers set their own personal goals of how deep to go and how long they want to stay in; within the limits established by the lifeguards. Some Plungers only get their ankles wet; others stay in and frolic until the lifeguards make them leave the water. Going completely underwater is discouraged since it makes it harder for the lifeguards to determine individuals in distress.

What if I'm cold or get cold easily? We have full Emergency crews on site during the event.

Where can I change before and after the Plunge? We will have male and female changing/restrooms in the warm swim clubhouse.

I can't collect all my pledges before the Plunge, what do I do? We can only register you for the amount of donations you bring with you to the Plunge. Separate checks are OK and should be made payable to Kids in Training. If you get donations in after the Plunge, you can mail them to Kids in Training.

Do I have to Plunge or can I help out in other ways? Our Plunge will be successful due to both the large number of Plungers and our great volunteers. If you simply want to volunteer your time to help out, please complete our Volunteer Sign-up form.

Some veteran plunger tips: Wear something on your feet as the ground can be incredibly cold and bring a sweat suit or robe to throw on right away when you're done.
