Course Description:*CANOES WILL BE PROVIDED* Click here for the Course Map. Teammates will canoe, bike and run. The run is on pavement and trail, some of which is narrow with obstacles. The bike is on trail - 5-7 year olds are on a portion of Loop 1 (3 loops), an old access road approximately 15 ft wide with very few roots. The 8-10 year olds will ride the same course and add Loop 2, a single track with many obstacles. They may have to get off their bike a few times to get over roots or through narrow areas. The 11-17 year olds will ride the same course but complete 2 loops of Loop 2. The bike trail is the same as the last race and all participants experienced no problems. As with the last race, we will also have a few "Special tests" throughout the course to further test your skills!
Remember that this is a race for the KIDS with assistance provided by the adult. Let's all make this a special experience for them. See training session details below for opportunities to try the course before the race. Trails can also be found on a map located in the Lake Crabtree brochure. Each canoe start will be approximately 30 seconds apart starting with the oldest age group and ending with the 5-7 yr olds. We are expecting about 100 teams which will mean starting times between first and last may be almost 1 hour apart. Total race times will vary. Expect the following guidelines: 5-7 yr olds, 25-35 mins. 8-10 yr olds, 30-50 mins. 11-17, 40-60 mins. Based on this, the race will begin at 1pm and end about 2:30.
Parking is located inside the park beyond the first lot. Prepare for restricted access during the race.
Awards- We will present all finishers with an award and enter their bib number into a raffle filled with goodies. Age Group awards will be presented at the end of the race. Results will be posted on the website that week.
Training sessions:- All registered participants may attend the free training sessions to get them familiar with the race course, transitions and get any questions answered. We highly recommend these sessions to assure your racer they will be comfortable on race day. All sessions will be held on location at Lake Crabtree (meet in the first parking lot) and conducted by KIT staff. If time allows, we may bike or run the course and certain sessions may have canoe. Please bring everything your child will use during the race including their bike, helmet and running shoes.
Please reserve a space by emailing us at info@kidsintraining.com
Dates and Times TBD
Kids! - If you want to have a fun race you must prepare for it so make sure you train well before the event. Whatever your distance is for the race, bike or run that distance slowly until you can complete it without stopping. Then try combining a bike/run, which is called a "brick". When you can do the bricks comfortably, try the single or brick distance a bit faster, even if sometimes you have to take short jogs in between intervals. Try to get in 3-5 sessions per week and make sure you get your parents to try it as well!
